A selectant strain.

SX/Y which is used for further strain improvement, is a selectant of SX.

I understand exactly the English meaning: a strain cultivated in such a way as to provide more properties, such as resistance, different from the parent strain.

Is there a French equivalent for this noun?

Unfortunately I don't know the FR word corresponding to "selectant"

I'm not qualified... ...in this domaine, but from a purely linguistic POV, and on the basis of the explanations you've given, I'd say that the general idea is probably right — alsways with the proviso, of course, that there may be a specific single term used in FR that I am unaware of.

My understanding of selectant is that it is a strain derived from the parent strain by selection (through the action of a selection agent/force), in the same way that a mutant is derived from a parent strain by mutation. If nobody can think of of equivalent word, I wonder if one could call it a souche dérivée or selectionnée?

ce n'est pas un agent placé dans le milieu de cultur qui induit cette transformation. C'est le résultat, la nouvelle souche qui est le "selectant".
