donde residen formas especialmente sofisticadas de dominación simbólica and were the loci of particularly sophisticated forms of symbolic power Explanation: I assume that the meaning here is that (as was the case among many ancient peoples) the mountains were considered the dwelling places of divinities, or were otherwise felt to possess a special sanctity. |

particularly complex forms of symbolic domination Explanation: "symbolic domination" is the correct concept, without doubts: "Bourdieu and Passeron term symbolic domination the ability of the dominant classes to convince themselves and others that the existing social hierarchy is thus justified on the basis of inherent properties of people or knowledge" But I would use "complex" in this context instead of sophisticated, in Spanish "sofisticadas" is been used in this case in that sense and I believe that "complex" in social sciences terminology captures this idea better. You will not see "sophisticated" that often in academic papers, specially not with this intended meaning. Consider that this text is using the third definition of "sofisticado": 3. adj. Dicho de un sistema o de un mecanismo: Técnicamente complejo o avanzado. |

and held a highly complex symbolic power Explanation: I just think some of the previous answers are too polysyllabic, and I don't think "domination" works. I don't know whether this is an academic text, but even if it is, you can still keep the language simple. |
