Hello fellow translators! I am a British citizen living in Spain and until now have had professional indemnity insurance through a UK insurance firm. Because of Brexit the company is not able to renew the policy for anyone not domiciled in the UK. I have not been able to find a policy offering equivalent coverage that includes North American clients. Might someone be able to suggest a firm in Europe that offers this type of insurance? Or was it just so dirt cheap before that it felt reassuring to have it for no real reason?

See more You might also have a look here to get inspired and do further research: https://www.hiscox.es https://www.hiscox.co.uk/business-insurance/professional-indemnity-insurance I basically agree that professional indemnity insurance and pecuniary loss liability insurance policies are not overly covered by insurance comparison sites as they relate to more specialized types of insurance. So maybe a specialist insurance company like Hiscox which does not do professional indemnity insurance and pecuniary loss liability insurance only on the side might be an idea. I know one translator from Oldenburg well-known in this country who, having published a translator survival guidebook, is with Hiscox SA. In any case, they, viz. the insurance company, have reasonable rates. I have no information on their payout ratio compared to number and volume of claims filed but I do think their Google and Facebook ratings are somewhat promising compared to some main competitors like R + V Versicherung and to domestic insurance companies' customer satisfaction ratings in general. Also, Boss Assekuranz, insurance brokers from Berlin, shortlisted by some translator associations for the relevance and quality of their services, sell at least their pecuniary loss liability insurance product to translators, if not also their professional indemnity insurance product, which means some preliminary screening of their products mainly or exclusively aimed at translators has been undertaken by people with an understanding of the subject matter.

Hiscox – which jurisdictions? | Nov 25, 2021 |
They don't seem to be very enthusiastic when it comes to explaining which jurisdictions they cover. Since outsourcers nearly always state in their agreements that their own jurisdiction is competent, we essentially need worldwide cover. Does anyone know?
