Texte source - anglais Stormwater detention tanks are widely used for mitigating impacts of combined sewer overflows (CSO) from urban catchments into receiving water bodies. The optimal size of detention tanks depends on climate and sewer system behaviours and can be estimated by using derived distribution approaches. They are based on using a stochastic model to fit the statistical pattern of observed rainfall records and an urban hydrology model to transform rainfall in sewer discharge. A key issue is the identification of the optimal structure of the stochastic rainfall model. Point processes are frequently applied, where rainfall events are schematised through the occurrence of rectangular pulses, which are governed by rainfall descriptors. In the presented model these latter descriptors are the interevent time (duration of the dry period between consecutive storms), event rainfall depth and event rainfall duration. This paper focuses on the analytical derivation of the probability distribution of the number and volume of overflows from the storm tank to the receiving water body for different and non-standard shapes of the probability distribution for above mentioned descriptors. The proposed approach is applied to 2 different sites in Spain: Valencia and Santander, located on the Mediterranean and northern Atlantic coastline, respectively. For both cases, it turned out that Pareto and Gamma-2 probability distributions for rainfall depth and duration provided a better fit than the exponential model, widely used in previous studies. A comparison between the two climatic zones, humid and semiarid, respectively, proves the key role played by climatic conditions for storm detention tanks sizing.

Texte source - français L'accidentologie des transports désigne l'étude des accidents (principalement corporels) et des risques d'accident dans les transports de personnes, en tenant compte du mode de déplacement utilisé (transport individuel ou transport collectif, déplacement motorisé ou non...). Elle permet de comparer d'un point de vue statistique, selon la méthode utilisée :
– le risque d'avoir un accident d'une certaine gravité en fonction de l'usage d'un mode de transport,
– les modes de transports entre eux en fonction du risque d'accident qu'ils présentent.
Sur les 1,2 million de morts sur la route dénombrés dans le monde en 2002, la plupart des victimes sont des piétons et des deux-roues, en raison de la mixité de la circulation et de la fragilité de ces usagers face aux véhicules plus massifs et plus rapides.
CHAMPS D'APPLICATION
Les études menées sur l'accidentologie des transports permettent :
– de déterminer les moyens appropriés à mettre en œuvre en cas de drame ;
– d'impulser des politiques de sécurité (routière, ferroviaire, aérienne, maritime), dans lesquelles on va chercher à modifier les comportements des opérateurs et des usagers ;
– d'évaluer (parfois partiellement) les effets de telle ou telle politique ;
– d'améliorer les véhicules par essai de choc.
Par exemple, en matière de sécurité routière, l'accidentologie des déplacements en automobile montre que la généralisation de l'usage de la ceinture de sécurité a permis de réduire de façon notable la mortalité des accidents, ou qu'une politique forte de réduction des vitesses en milieu urbain permet à la fois de réduire le nombre et la gravité des accidents. En revanche, en tant que telle, l'accidentologie ne permet pas toujours d'évaluer complètement les effets d'une mesure : l'expérience (en Espagne, en Australie) montre que la mise en place d'une mesure d'obligation du port du casque pour les cyclistes urbains ne réduit pas le nombre de traumatismes et leur gravité, mais qu'elle pénalisait en même temps le développement de la pratique de ce mode de transport, ce qui a des effets négatifs à long terme sur la santé publique (diminution de l'espérance de vie liée à un déficit d'activité physique de la population qui délaisse le vélo en raison de l'obligation du port du casque), non pris en compte par ce type d'études.

Foglalkozik a balesetek során bekövetkező személyi sérülésekkel, és figyelembe veszi a közlekedés módját (egyéni- vagy tömegközlekedés, motorizált avagy nem stb.). A kutatók a közlekedési baleseteket statisztikailag különböző szempontok szerint hasonlíthatják össze:
– egy bizonyos súlyosságú baleset bekövetkezésének kockázatát a közlekedés módjának függvényében,
– a közlekedés formáit a velük járó baleseti kockázat függvényében.
Az utak 2002-ben világszerte szedett 1,2 millió halálos áldozatának többsége gyalogos és két keréken közlekedő volt, ami azzal magyarázható, hogy ők a forgalom legkiszolgáltatottabb résztvevői a jelenlévő nagyobb lendületű járművekkel szemben.
ALKALMAZÁSI TERÜLETEK
A közlekedési baleseti okkutatás lehetővé teszi:
– hogy meghatározzuk, hogy mik a végrehajtandó intézkedések egy bekövetkezett tragédia esetén;
– hogy hatást gyakoroljunk a (közúti, vasúti, légiforgalmi és tengerészeti) biztonságpolitikára, aminek keretében a közlekedésben résztvevők magatartásának módosítására törekszünk;
– hogy számba vegyük az egyes politikai irányelvek és intézkedések hatásait, akkor is, amikor ezt nem is a teljesség igényével tesszük;
– hogy töréstesztekkel részt vegyünk a járműfejlesztésben.
A közúti közlekedést tekintve például, a személygépkocsikat érintő közlekedési balesetek kutatása azt mutatja, hogy a biztonsági övek használatának elterjedése lehetővé tette a balesetek halálozási arányának figyelemre méltó mérséklését. Ezzel egy időben a lakott területen belüli üresjárati gurulás visszaszorítására tett hathatós közlekedéspolitikai intézkedések lehetővé teszik a balesetek számának és súlyosságának csökkentését. Azonban a közlekedési baleseti okkutatás nem mindig teszi lehetővé, hogy teljes mértékben megjósoljuk egy rendelkezés következményeit. I decided to work as a translator because I actively use the above-mentioned languages, I’m educated and interested in technical and medical fields, and eager to learn new things.
