Texte source - français Reverse Garbage is Australia’s biggest and most well known resource and re-use centre. It’s actually been here since 1975. We’re really here to help promote that re-use is actually a way of life as well. So rather than just think about recycling water bottles at home, you can actually do more than that. You can actually buy reuse products; you can actually donate products to be reused.
Behind me here is what we call the shop area where things are sold individually and we get a lot of the items that are still in packages that are from retail environments, like you know we have here play doh sets still in its packaging, never been used. So obviously a toyshop closed down so we got all their stock.
Something that we’re famous for is selling things per volume as well as individually by price. So that’s where people can get a real bargain and they can pick up one of these sacks that is also reuse, they’re from coffee beans. And they can just fill up a sack, mix ‘n match whatever they like, and have it overflowing for under $20.
The whole centre of the warehouse is where we sell everything per volume. So we have these bays that say Bag Items and fabric samples on the table over there. We get a whole range of materials from industry to local companies to individuals. And materials that people can’t find elsewhere that aren’t as easy to access. So we’re the important link between industry and the public and stopping so much waste from going to landfill that businesses create.

Notre objectif est d’aider et de promouvoir la réutilisation comme une façon de vivre. En plus de penser au recyclage de bouteilles d’eau minérale chez soi, il est possible de faire plus que ça. On peut acheter des produits réutilisables, on peut donner les produits qu’on a utilisés pour qu’ils soient réutilisés par d’autres personnes.
Derrière moi, il y a ce qu’on appelle le « shop », où des articles sont vendus à l’unité. On reçoit beaucoup d’articles qui sont dans leur emballage d’origine. Par exemple, celles-ci, ces boîtes de pâte à modeler – sont toujours dans leur paquet, jamais utilisés. Un magasin de jouet a dû fermer et on a pu récupérer gratuitement tout leur stock d’invendus.
Une des choses qui fait notre succès, c’est la possibilité de vendre des articles par volume aussi bien qu’a l’unité. Alors c’est là que les gens font de bonnes affaires. Ils peuvent remplir un de ces sacs - qui est d’ailleurs un article réutilisé : a l’origine c’était un sac de grains de café. Alors ils peuvent remplir le sac avec tout ce qu’ils veulent pour environ 20 dollars (12 euro).
C’est au milieu de l’entrepôt qu’on vend tous les articles par volume. Ils sont disposés par rayon comme celui-ci qui indique « Bag Items » et là-bas sur la table, il y a des échantillons de tissu. On reçoit toutes sortes de matériaux qui viennent de l’industrie, d’entreprises locales et d’individus. Ce sont des matériaux qu’on ne peut pas trouver ailleurs et qui ne sont pas facilement disponibles. Nous sommes un lien important entre l’industrie et les gens. Reverse Garbage permet d’éviter à une foule d’objets de finir à la décharge publique.
