INTRDUCTION:

I have retired (Voluntarily) in February 2011 from the Patent Office Mumbai, India as Assistant Controller of Patents & Designs.

I have an overall experience of over 32 years, including 12 years (1999-2011) in Indian Patent Offices in Kolkata and Mumbai, first as an Examiner of Patents & Designs for 7 years (1999-2006) and then as Controller of Patent Granting/Refusing Patent Applications for 5 years (2006-2011). So, I have gained useful experience in the fields of Patent Search, Examination and opposition. Subsequently, I took Voluntary Retirement to pursue patent consultancy and to provide multilingual translation services.

Prior to this experience in Patent Offices, I had also gained supervisory experience for about 13.5 years (1985-1999) in the fields of Quality Assurance related to Armaments produced under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India.

I have also worked in Private Mechanical Engineering Industries in the initial period in my career (1982-85).

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

1985-1990: Degree (B.E.) in Mechanical Engineering.

1978-1981: Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.

LANGUAGE QUALIFICATIONS:

1983-1984 Elementary (G-I & G-II) Course in GERMAN, Max Mueller Bhawan, Pune.

1999-2001 Diplôme Supérieur-(Civilization Française (DS), Alliance Française de Calcutta.

2001-2002 Diplôme de Langue Française (DLF), Alliance Française de Calcutta.

2009 Translation Course in French, Alliance Française de Bombay.

2008 Certificate in German, University of Mumbai.

2011 Diploma in German, University of Mumbai.

2012-13 Advance Diploma-German, University of Mumbai.

2013-14 Currently pursuing Special Diploma in German under Technical/Scientific Commercial Translation & Tourism Course at University of Mumbai.


PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Attended WIPO conducted 45 days course “General Course on Intellectual Property” through Distance Education during June-July 2002.

Attended a Two-week “ASEAN WORKSHOP ON PATENT SEARCH & EXAMINATION IN THE FIELD OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING“ held at KL, Malaysia in July-August 2003 under the aegis of EPO.

Completed WIPO/UNISA organized IP Law Specialization Program through Distance Learning during 2003-2005 comprising of eight (8) modules of various IPR disciplines, in 4 semesters.


ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

I have also undertaken Technical & Legal Translation jobs during last 5 years from German and French languages into English.

Till date I have translated more than 400 patent specifications /claims / IPERs / ISRs and a few Court decisions [DE > EN ~ 300 (over 200 patent specifications of a German Multinational in Automotive sector) and misc. FR > EN ~ 100 documents] both in Patents, Trademarks & Legal Matters, as a freelancer.


EXTRACURRICULAR:

I’m an avid reader and a Trekker, having completed (92 kms Pindari Glacier trek in Uttarakhand-June 2002).

I have also completed Har-Ki-Doon Trek in –May 2005 & Dalhousie Trek in Dec’ 2009, both as YHAI member.
