Welsh councillors can use translation service at Neath Port Talbot meetings

COUNCILLORS can use Welsh at Neath Port Talbot Council meetings.

Earlier this month members from the authority’s Plaid Cymru group questioned the provision for Welsh speakers following an Freedom of Information request. The group said there is no translation service available for members to speak the language at full council meetings and no investigations had been carried out into how much it would cost.

But following a meeting with officers Trebanos councillor Rebeca Lewis has said a translation service is available – provided notice is given.

She said: “This was a very productive meeting and officers agreed that it is a right to speak the language freely. Read more.
