provide some USD300 billion in subsidies annually to their farmers. The CRB also says that the
impact of reduced subsidies in the U.S. and Europe would be reduced production, higher global
prices and smaller agricultural trade surpluses for the U.S. and Europe. However, in our view, it is
unlikely that President Bush, with an approval rating of just 30% will suggest a removal of farm
subsidies. Likewise, reforms to the EU Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for the period 2005-2012
will not eliminate the potential or incentive for farmers to overproduce. In our view, subsidies are a
major dampener for agricultural prices.

market are suggesting that the end of the Fed tightening cycle is
near. Other central banks might stay in tightening mode for longer.
With the last hike, an important negative for the U.S. relative to other
regional stock markets will disappear. This could reverse the valuation
downtrend relative to other regions like Europe in the near future
(see chart below), which supports our overweight stance in North
American stocks established a month ago. Within our sector strategy,
we raise Swiss insurers from underweight to neutral, aligning the sector
with the European insurances industry group. The Swiss insurers
are set to profit from the expected quicker SNB rate normalization
and the associated increase in Swiss bond yields.
