Jahrgang 1962, studierte in Hildesheim, Manchester (England) und Austin (Texas) angewandte Sprachwissenschaften und Technik. 1989 erhielt er den Grad eines Diplom-Fachübersetzers von der Universität Hildesheim für die Sprachen Englisch, Französisch und Spanisch mit der Sachfach-Kombination Elektrotechnik/Maschinenbau. In seiner Diplomarbeit untersuchte er 1987 in Manchester das erste am Markt verfügbare PC-gestützte Übersetzungssystem. Nach zweieinhalbjähriger Tätigkeit als angestellter Terminologe und Übersetzer für die Fachübersetzergenossenschaft InTra eG in Berlin gründete er 1991 in Oldenburg Dialog Translations. Schwerpunkt seiner Übersetzungstätigkeit waren Werbetexte für die IT-Branche (u. a. viele hundert Marketingbroschüren für Dell Deutschland) sowie technische Dokumentationen für viele Bereiche der Industrie, vor allem Chemie, Windenergie und Photovoltaik. Veröffentlichung mehrerer Artikel in den Fachzeitschriften "TransRelations" des BDÜ Bremen/Niedersachsen und MDÜ des Bundesverbandes des BDÜ.

A German native speaker with a technical translation degree (Diplom-Fachübersetzer), I started out in the translation business in 1989 as a terminologist at the Berlin office of a German translators' cooperative. After two years, I moved to Oldenburg in Lower Saxony to start my own translation business – dialog translations.
Having studied Technical Translation (with Electrical and Mechanical Engineering) at the University of Hildesheim and having spent two trimesters at the University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology and a year the the University of Texas at Austin (under a Fulbright grant) studying computational linguistics, my focus is on IT, telecommunications and technology in general. I also have a flair for writing creative marketing copy.
In 1989, I wrote a dissertation on the first PC-based machine translation system commercially available. My conclusion was that the main challenge with machine translation is that it is extremely tiresome to copy-edit the output. In addition, there is a hypnotic effect - over time, the editor gets so used to repetitive errors of the software that he/she ultimately no longer notices them...

I have almost three decades of experience with documents ranging from web sites to marketing material to technical documentation to scientific studies. But I will also translate the odd birth certificate or driver’s licence.
