Texte source - anglais Economic and political integration between the member states of the European Union means that these countries have to take joint decisions on many matters. So they have developed common policies in a very wide range of fields - from agriculture to culture, from consumer affairs to competition, from the environment and energy to transport and trade.
In the early days the focus was on a common commercial policy for coal and steel and a common agricultural policy. Other policies were added as time went by, and as the need arose. The need for environmental protection is now taken into account across the whole range of EU policies.
The European Union's relations with the rest of the world have also become important. The EU negotiates major trade and aid agreements with other countries and is developing a Common Foreign and Security Policy.
If you are an EU citizen, you can travel, study and work wherever you want in the 15 European Union countries. The EU is working constantly to give its citizens greater freedom of movement as a fundamental right and to get rid of all discrimination based on nationality.
In most of the EU you can travel without carrying a passport and without being stopped for checks at the borders. With very few exceptions, you may buy anything you want anywhere you want and take it all back home with you.
The EU does not decide what you learn in school, but it does work to ensure that educational and professional qualifications are properly recognised in other EU countries. The EU is working to provide access to learning opportunities for everyone, at home and abroad, through partnerships and exchange schemes and by removing bureaucratic obstacles.
Pollution has no respect for national frontiers. That is why the European Union has a special role to play in environmental protection. Many environmental problems in Europe could not be tackled without joint action by all EU countries.
The EU has adopted over 200 environmental protection directives that are applied in all Member States. Most of the directives are designed to prevent air and water pollution and encourage correct waste disposal. Other major issues include nature conservation and the supervision of dangerous industrial processes. The EU wants transport, industry, agriculture, fisheries, energy and tourism to be organised in such a way that they can be developed without destroying our natural resources.
In 1993, the Union set up the European Environment Agency, based in Copenhagen. The Agency gathers information on the state of our environment, enabling protective measures and laws to be based on solid data.
The EU has a comprehensive system of environmental controls to deal with pollution and environmental threats of many kinds - from noise to packaging waste, from conservation of the natural habitat to car exhaust fumes. The high level of protection these provide is broadly equivalent throughout the EU, but the policy is flexible enough to take local circumstances into account.
Many environmental problems transcend the EU borders. Consequently, the EU has signed up to international programmes and conventions on a wide range of problems, including acid rain, biodiversity, climate change and greenhouse gases, desertification, hazardous waste, oil spills and protection of major rivers.
War between EU countries is now unthinkable, thanks to the unity that has been built up between them over the last 50 years. Given this success, the EU is now increasingly involved in preserving peace and creating stability in neighbouring countries.
Safeguarding employment in Europe and creating new jobs is one of the European Union's key tasks. By creating a frontier-free single market and a single currency, the euro, the EU has already given a significant boost to trade and employment in Europe.

Το πρώτο διάστημα, η προσοχή εστιαζόταν στην χάραξη κοινής πολιτικής σχετικά με το εμπόριο άνθρακα και ατσαλιού καθώς και στη χάραξη μίας κοινής πολιτικής σχετικά με την γεωργία. Καθώς περνούσε ο χρόνος και καθώς αυξάνονταν οι ανάγκες, προστέθηκαν κι άλλες πολιτικές. Η ανάγκη για περιβαλλοντική προστασία λαμβάνεται πλέον υπόψη κατά την χάραξη όλων των πολιτικών της ΕΕ.
Οι σχέσεις της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης με τον υπόλοιπο κόσμο έχουν επίσης γίνει σημαντικές. Η ΕΕ διαπραγματεύεται μείζονες συμφωνίες για εμπόριο και επικουρία με άλλες χώρες καθώς και αναπτύσσει μία Κοινή Πολιτική Ασφάλειας και Εξωτερικών Υποθέσεων.
Εάν είστε πολίτης της ΕΕ, μπορείτε να ταξιδέψετε, φοιτήσετε και να εργαστείτε οπουδήποτε θέλετε μέσα στις 15 χώρες της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης. Οι περισσότερες εξ αυτών των οδηγιών έχουν σχεδιαστεί για την καταπολέμηση της μόλυνσης του αέρα και των υδάτων καθώς και για την ενθάρρυνση της σωστής απομάκρυνσης των απορριμμάτων. Άλλα σημαντικά ζητήματα περιλαμβάνουν την διατήρηση της φύσης και την επίβλεψη των επικίνδυνων βιομηχανικών διαδικασιών. Η ΕΕ θέλει οι μεταφορές, βιομηχανία, γεωργία, ιχθυοκαλλιέργεια, ενέργεια και τουρισμό να είναι οργανωμένα με τέτοιο τρόπο ώστε να μπορούν να αναπτυχθούν χωρίς την καταστροφή των φυσικών μας πόρων.

Έχοντας υπόψη:
τη συνθήκη για την ίδρυση της Ευρωπαϊκής Κοινότητας, και ιδίως το άρθρο 37,
την πρόταση της Επιτροπής(1),
τη γνώμη του Ευρωπαϊκού Κοινοβουλίου(2),
τη γνώμη της Οικονομικής και Κοινωνικής Επιτροπής(3),
Εκτιμώντας τα ακόλουθα:
(1) Ορισμένες κάθετες οδηγίες περί τροφίμων θα πρέπει να απλουστευθούν ώστε να λαμβάνονται υπόψη μόνον οι βασικές απαιτήσεις τις οποίες πρέπει να πληρούν τα καλυπτόμενα από τις εν λόγω οδηγίες προϊόντα για να μπορούν να κυκλοφορούν ελεύθερα στην εσωτερική αγορά, σύμφωνα με τα συμπεράσματα του Ευρωπαϊκού Συμβουλίου του Εδιμβούργου της 11ης και 12ης Δεκεμβρίου 1992, όπως επιβεβαιώθηκαν από τα συμπεράσματα του Ευρωπαϊκού Συμβουλίου των Βρυξελλών της 10ης και 11ης Δεκεμβρίου 1993.
(2) Η οδηγία 73/437/ΕΟΚ του Συμβουλίου, της 11ης Δεκεμβρίου 1973, περί προσεγγίσεως των νομοθεσιών των κρατών μελών σχετικά με ορισμένα σάκχαρα που προορίζονται για την ανθρώπινη διατροφή(4), αιτιολογήθηκε από το γεγονός ότι, οι διαφορές μεταξύ των εθνικών νομοθεσιών που αφορούν ορισμένες κατηγορίες σακχάρων ήταν δυνατόν να δημιουργήσουν άνισες συνθήκες ανταγωνισμού, με αποτέλεσμα την παραπλάνηση των καταναλωτών, και, ως εκ τούτου, να έχουν άμεση επίπτωση στην εγκαθίδρυση και τη λειτουργία της κοινής αγοράς.
(3) Κατά συνέπεια, η οδηγία 73/437/ΕΟΚ απέβλεπε στη θέσπιση ορισμών και κοινών κανόνων για τα χαρακτηριστικά παρασκευής, τη συσκευασία και την επισήμανση των συγκεκριμένων προϊόντων, ώστε να εξασφαλιστεί η ελεύθερη κυκλοφορία τους στο εσωτερικό της Κοινότητας.
(4) Η Επιτροπή προτίθεται να προτείνει, το ταχύτερο δυνατό, και οπωσδήποτε πριν από την 1η Ιουλίου 2000, να περιληφθεί στην οδηγία 80/232/ΕΟΚ του Συμβουλίου, της 15ης Ιανουαρίου 1980, περί προσεγγίσεως των νομοθεσιών των κρατών μελών των αναφερομένων στις σειρές των ονομαστικών ποσοτήτων και ονομαστικών χωρητικοτήτων που είναι αποδεκτές για ορισμένα προσυσκευασμένα προϊόντα(5), μια σειρά ονομαστικών βαρών των προϊόντων που καλύπτονται από την παρούσα οδηγία.
(5) Η οδηγία 73/437/ΕΟΚ θα πρέπει να αναδιατυπωθεί προκειμένου να καταστούν σαφέστεροι οι κανόνες παραγωγής και >ISO_1>o>ISO_7>ι όροι εμπορίας ορισμένων σακχάρων που προορίζονται για τη διατροφή του ανθρώπου και προκειμένου να ευθυγραμμιστεί με τη γενική κοινοτική νομοθεσία περί τροφίμων, και ιδίως με εκείνη που αφορά την επισήμανση, τις χρωστικές ουσίες και τα άλλα επιτρεπόμενα πρόσθετα, διαλύτες εκχύλισης και μεθόδους ανάλυσης.
(6) Οι γενικοί κανόνες επισήμανσης των τροφίμων που θεσπίζονται με την οδηγία 2000/73/ΕΚ του Ευρωπαϊκού Κοινοβουλίου και του Συμβουλίου(6), θα πρέπει να εφαρμόζονται υπό την επιφύλαξη ορισμένων όρων.
(7) Σύμφωνα με τις αρχές της επικουρικότητας και της αναλογικότητας που θεσπίζονται με το άρθρο 5 της συνθήκης, ο στόχος του καθορισμού κοινών ορισμών και κανόνων για τα αφορώμενα προϊόντα και της ευθυγράμμισης των διατάξεων με τη γενική κοινοτική νομοθεσία για τα τρόφιμα, δεν είναι δυνατόν να επιτευχθεί από τα κράτη μέλη επαρκώς και, συνεπώς, λόγω του χαρακτήρα της παρούσας οδηγίας, μπορεί να επιτευχθεί καλύτερα σε κοινοτικό επίπεδο. >ISO_1>H >ISO_7>παρούσα οδηγία δεν υπερβαίνει τα αναγκαία όρια για την επίτευξη του εν λόγω στόχου.
(8) Τα απαιτούμενα μέτρα για την εφαρμογή της παρούσας οδηγίας θα πρέπει να θεσπιστούν σύμφωνα με την απόφαση 1994/468/ΕΚ του Συμβουλίου, της 28ης Ιουνίου 1999, για τον καθορισμό των όρων άσκησης των εκτελεστικών αρμοδιοτήτων που ανατίθενται στην Επιτροπή(7).
(9) Για να αποτραπεί η δημιουργία νέων εμποδίων στην ελεύθερη κυκλοφορία, τα κράτη μέλη δεν θα πρέπει να θεσπίζουν, για τα εν λόγω προϊόντα, εθνικές διατάξεις μη προβλεπόμενες από την παρούσα οδηγία.
Traduction - anglais THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION,
Having regard to the Treaty establishing the European Community, and in particular Article 37 thereof,
Having regard to the proposal from the Commission(1),
Having regard to the opinion of the European Parliament(2),
Having regard to the opinion of the Economic and Social Committee(3),
Whereas:
(1) Certain vertical Directives relating to foodstuffs should be simplified in order to take account only of the essential requirements to be met by the products they cover in order that those products may move freely within the internal market, in accordance with the conclusions of the European Council held in Edinburgh on 11 and 12 December 1992, as confirmed by those of the European Council in Brussels on 10 and 11 December 1993.
(2) Council Directive 73/437/EEC of 11 December 1973 on the approximation of the laws of the Member States concerning certain sugars intended for human consumption(4) was justified by the fact that differences between national laws on certain categories of sugar could result in conditions of unfair competition likely to mislead consumers, and thereby have a direct effect on the establishment and functioning of the common market.
(3) Directive 73/437/EEC was consequently designed to lay down definitions and common rules on the manufacturing characteristics, packaging and labelling of the products concerned so as to ensure their free movement within the Community.
(4) The Commission intends to propose, as quickly as possible, and at all events before 1 July 2000, the inclusion in Council Directive 80/232/EEC of 15 January 1980 on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to the ranges of nominal quantities and nominal capacities permitted for certain prepackaged products(5) of a range of nominal weights of the products covered by this Directive.
(5) Directive 73/437/EEC should be recast in order to make the rules on manufacturing and marketing conditions relating to certain sugars intended for human consumption more accessible and, furthermore, in order to bring it into line with general Community legislation on foodstuffs, particularly legislation on labelling, colouring matter and other authorised additives, extraction solvents and methods of analysis.
(6) The general food-labelling rules laid down in Directive 2000/13/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council(6) should apply subject to certain conditions.
(7) In accordance with the principles of subsidiarity and proportionality established by Article 5 of the Treaty, the objective of laying down common definitions and rules for the products concerned and bringing the provisions into line with general Community legislation on foodstuffs cannot be sufficiently achieved by the Member States and can therefore, by reason of the nature of this Directive, be better achieved by the Community. This Directive does not go beyond what is necessary in order to achieve the said objective.
(8) The measures necessary for the implementation of this Directive should be adopted in accordance with Council Decision 1999/468/EC of 28 June 1999 laying down the procedures for the exercise of implementing powers conferred on the Commission(7).
(9) To avoid creating new barriers to free movement, Member States should refrain from adopting, for the products in question, national provisions not provided for by this Directive,

Consejos y Advertencias de seguridad
- Conectar el aparato a una base provista de toma de tierra y que soporte como mínimo 10 Amperios.
Si usa su cafetera por primera vez
- Quitar la tapa de la jarra y llenar ésta de agua.Usar sólo agua fría.
- Verter el agua de la jarra en el depósito y volver a poner la jarra, con la tapa puesta, en la placa alojamiento jarra.
Para hacer café
- Levantar la tapa del depósito y llene éste con agua fría del grifo, tanta como tazas de café desee preparar.
- El indicador del nivel de agua muestra el número de tazas (1 taza=125ml).
- Colocar el filtro permanente en el porta-filtros y llenarlo de café molido, por taza.
- Para usar la jarra , colocarla con su tapa puesta, en la placa calefactora.
- Cerrar la tapa del depósito de agua y poner en marcha el aparato.
- El piloto luminoso se ilumina, indicando que la cafetera está conectada a la red.
- Una vez terminada la elaboración, el café de la jarra de cristal se mantendrá caliente mientras se deje la cafetera encendida.
En la versión termo, el café de la jarra termo se mantendrá caliente sin necesidad de dejar la cafetera encendida.
- Para servir el café en la jarra termo, girar la tapa de la jarra de manera que coincidan el símbolo de la tapa de la jarra con el símbolo del pico de la jarra.(Fig 1).
- El mecanismo anti-goteo evita que el filtro gotee después de quitar la jarra termo o inclinar el cestillo del filtro.
Limpieza
- La jarra puede limpiarse con agua tibia, algún líquido limpiador y cepillo suave.
- No limpiar la jarra termo con productos abrasivos como lejía, cloro, etc..ya que estos productos podrían dañar el acero inoxidable.
- Desenchufe la placha de la red de alimentación.

- Συνδέστε την συσκευή σε μια βάση με γείωση, η οποία υποστηρίζει τουλάχιστον 10 αμπέρ.
Εάν χρησιμοποιείτε την καφετιέρα για πρώτη φορά
- Απομακρύνατε το καπάκι της κανάτας και γεμίστε την με νερό. Χρησιμοποιήστε κρύο νερό μόνο.
- Αδειάστε το νερό από την κανάτα στο δοχείο, επανατοποθετήστε το καπάκι στην κανάτα και θέστε την στην ειδική της θέση.
Για να φτιάξετε καφέ
- Ανασηκώστε το καπάκι του δοχείου και γεμίστε το με τόσο κρύο νερό από την βρύση για όσα φλιτζάνια καφέ θέλετε να ετοιμάσετε.
- Ο δείκτης του επιπέδου νερού σας δείχνει τον αριθμό των φλιτζανιών (1 φλιτζάνι = 125ml).
- Τοποθετήστε το μόνιμο φίλτρο στην θύρα φίλτρου και γεμίστε το με τόσο καφέ φίλτρου για όσα φλιτζάνια θέλετε.
- Για να χρησιμοποιήσετε την κανάτα, τοποθετήστε την με το καπάκι της στην ειδική θέση θέρμανσης.
- Κλείστε το καπάκι του δοχείου νερού και θέστε την συσκευή σε λειτουργία
- Η φωτεινή ένδειξη ανάβει, επιδεικνύοντας ότι η καφετιέρα σας είναι συνδεδεμένη στο ρεύμα.
- Όταν έχει ολοκληρώσει την προετοιμασία, ο καφές στην κρυστάλλινη κανάτα θα διατηρηθεί ζεστός για όσο τον αφήσετε στην καφετιέρα.
Στην έκδοση θερμός, ο καφές στην κανάτα – θερμός διατηρείται ζεστός χωρίς να χρειάζεται να αφήσετε την καφετιέρα να λειτουργεί.
- Για να σερβίρετε τον καφέ σε κανάτα – θερμός, γυρίστε το καπάκι με τέτοιο τρόπο ώστε το σύμβολο στο καπάκι να συμπίπτει με το σύμβολο στο πάνω μέρος της κανάτας (Σχήμα 1).
- Ο μηχανισμός κατά των διαρροών αποτρέπει τις διαρροές από το φίλτρο όταν βγάζετε την κανάτα – θερμός ή όταν βγάζετε το καλάθι θήκης του φίλτρου.
Καθαρισμός
- Η κανάτα μπορεί να καθαριστεί με χλιαρό νερό, λίγο καθαριστικό μέσο και μία μαλακή βούρτσα.
- Μην καθαρίζετε την κανάτα – θερμός με αποξεστικά προϊόντα όπως η αλισίβα, χλωρίνη κτλ, μια και αυτά τα προϊόντα μπορεί να φθείρουν το ανοξείδωτο ατσάλι.
- Αποσυνδέστε την πλάκα από το δίκτυο ηλεκτρικής παροχής.
