The document gives on overview of the modelling used to assess how an underground cavity might evolve as fluid is injected over time.

When comparing the various modelling techniques (plane, axisymmetric, 3D), it talks of "problèmes plans" as if they were a device/mechanism/solution for modelling rather than what we commonly term a 'maths problem'.

Examples:
"Il est connu que les problèmes plans surestiment les flux massiques de roche dissoute vers la solution fluide."
"Ces problèmes plans ont une cinétique de dissolution plus grande que dans la configuration réelle 3D."

I almost feel that "modèle" could replace "problème" without any negative affect, particular when we consider how the former seems to refer to the latter in:

"Ces problèmes plans ont une cinétique de dissolution plus grande que dans la configuration réelle 3D.
Le pourcentage de carbonate (x%) en injection réduit sensiblement la cinétique de dissolution.
Néanmoins, ces modélisations sont indispensables pour la construction d’un modèle 3D robuste"

It fitted into the translation perfect, and on reflection 'models' and 'problems' have in common the notion of an input (in one case data) and an output (in the other case a solution, hopefully).
