Accord  Tony M: Yes, it means it is made from a solid flat bar of (probably) steel — i.e. it is not fabricated up from sheet metal. It might be worth keeping the 'solid' in there, just to emphasize the point.

"Solid" in the sense of not hollow, as some cheap hoes might be. One wouldn't expect it to be necessary to state that it isn't perforated. NB a "flat iron" is something absolutely different!
