French term

débiteur des ... garanties

French to English Law/Patents Law (general) civil proceedings
In a preliminary sale contract, under the section on liability related to the construction:
"Débiteurs : les débiteurs des diverses garanties dont l'acquéreur peut bénéficier à la suite de l’achat sont :
a / the VENDOR-constructeur pour la totalité de la construction ...."
While I can understand that we're talking about those who have to pay out under the guarantee, I'm at a loss to find a way to translate "débiteur" here. (Well, it is Saturday evening^^). They're not guarantors, are they?? I'd be grateful for some help, please!

un débiteur in french is somebody who owes something to somebody. so why not using DEBTOR then?
Mark Owens Jan 26, 2014:
guarantor sounds good. These are the people who can be pursued if the party breaches the contract under English law.
Samuel Woodward Jan 25, 2014:
I would have thought something simple like "guarantee provider", so: "the various guarantees/warranties enjoyed by the purchaser shall be provided by..."

guarantor

I think you are right, Sam. "débiteurs des guaranties" means those who are bound under the guarantees, in other words "the guarantors"
