Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (3): Tony M, Sheila Wilson, AllegroTrans

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Do note that 'convention travelers' implies people for whom the convention may be the reason for their travel — but not by any means necessarily that they are simply 'en route' to one.

Thanks, Colin! Yes, I always feel 'convention' is rather recent and a bit fashionable, has a US ring to it.

agree dandamesh : I think you gave the right explanation in your note to Colin " -> "rather recent and a bit fashionable", often used for larger meetings such as annual conference of associations, used in business not yet for scientific/academic events

a "get together"

From Latin con+venire. An assembly of people e.g. politicians, people in the same business.
Peer comment(s):

agree Tony M : Yes, often used interchangeably with 'conference', cf. e.g. 'conference/convention centre'. As A/T points out, this is of course an informal term, and generally implies a smaller event; however, the use of a less formal term might help Asker understand.

Thanks Tony.

Thanks Sheila.
neutral AllegroTrans : a highly informal way of saying it; wouldn't usually be used in the business world
7 hrs
His question was "what does this mean?"
neutral Colin Rowe : To me, a "get together" suggests something much smaller and much more informal, e.g. a few friends meeting up for a drink and a chat.

Note my quote marks, con+venire, assembly.
agree dandamesh : that's the meaning

I realize asker is looking for an explanation of "convention" and as Colin has pointed out, it's just an alternative way of saying "conference"
Peer comment(s):

neutral AllegroTrans : mmm..........merely repeating the word doesn't convey it's meaning to the asker

right of course but maybe a synonym search would confirm and isn't that hardto do :)
neutral Colin Rowe : Thanks, but it was Tony, actually! I merely showed up to confirm!
