WI = [(VAB – S) / S] * 100 = [(VAB / S) – (S / S)] * 100 = (VAB / S – 1) * 100, sendo S a massa salarial do período.

1. THE WORKONOMIC INDEX, INDICATOR OF SALARY PRODUCTIVITY
The company’s existing workforce forms the operating element that allows the creation of value. Without its activity, it’s impracticable to add value to business.
Therefore, the ratio most commonly used to measure business productivity is the gross value added per hour worked.
The ratio above doesn’t preclude considering the fixed assets on the formation of the productivity. On the contrary, it is generally accepted that the ratio increases if the workers have more advanced means to work at their disposal.
Thus, the concept salary productivity measures in which degree the workforce is generating a value that, besides enabling to remunerate that workforce, allows remunerating other entities that make possible the production process: other equity financial backers, own equity holders, owners of goods yielded to the company, the government.
The management consultant Boston Consulting Group (BCG) proposed, as an indicator of salary productivity, the Workonomic Index, which we present in an adapted format :
WI = [(GVA – S) / S] * 100 = [(GVA / S) – (S / S)] * 100 = (GVA / S – 1) * 100, being S the mass salary of the time span.
