building specifications
n the specifications for the construction of an apartment block and in this case, the flat roof:
'La protection d'étanchéité sers constituée de dalles sur plots pour les zones courantes et zones de circulation techniques et de gravillons pour les zones recevant l'équipement technique."
I'm having difficulty understanding what these zones are (!) and hence the correct expression.
Has anyone come across this before, please?

general areas
While Michelle's understanding of the source term is correct, this is the usual way of expressing it in English.

standard areas
I understand "zones courantes" as just meaning the "standard areas" to distinguish them from the more problematic/technically difficult areas.
Standard areas could also be replaced by basic/normal/classic areas.
I'm not an expert in construction so I don't know if the term "zones courantes" has a particular meaning for roofs.

: Looks coherent but must be a more technical term.

tributary area/zone (=stud areas/zones)
When creating/constructing a roff, the engineer/stics shall make especially meticulous calculations, otherwise the roof can fall in a winter beacuse of additional load from the snow and cause death of the people inside, as it happened sadly in a Latvian shopping center.

Tributary Area and load calcuations

The tributary area of the roof is the part of the loaded area that is carried by the beams being sized. the corners are the studs.

: Nothing directly to do with loadings. This is about the protection of the waterproofing from damage by traffic and installations placed on it.// Yes, pedestrian traffic. No "studs" here either.

sadly I disagree with you. From damage by traffic? On a flat roof?

Discussion
No need to thank me; I did not offer you free training.
"and your work as an interpreter and translator is hardly a substitute for training and experience"???
You can criticize anyone but WHAT IS THIS?
What does mean for you being a Certified Pro?
I would never, ever, even to dumbest question, even under poor answer write such comment, if I never met a person before.
I do not know whether you are a construction engineer or what degree you have, but if you are even a professor in construction, this is a lack of elementary respect. Thank you for the "free" training offer but to learn something from the other person, first of all, requires mutual respect and understanding.
I do have an idea about the meaning but would definitely need more context to provide you with an accurate answer.
