I am translating a descriptive insert for a watch produced originally during WW II.

The definition of a "hack function" is:
a feature found on military watches, a mechanism that stops the second hand while the watch is being set. This enables watches to be synchronized to the precise second. This is now a very common feature on many watches.

Here is the context:

XXXX Type A-15 – Created to ensure precision timing under fire, XXXX’s historic Type A-15 watch, commissioned by the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, featured an innovative double-rim accumulator dial to measure elapsed time in hours and minutes, along with such essentials as luminous hands and markers and a hack function for exact synchronization.
