French term

maille du flux global

French to English Tech/Engineering Engineering: Industrial manufacturing
They're talking about streamlining operations and reducing lead times in a production plant. I don't know what they mean by "maille." I found "subnet" in a previous ProZ question and in Le Grand Dictionnaire but I'm not sure that's the right translation here. Any thoughts? Thanks, Karen

Le projet optimisation des flux d’informations et des flux produits, démarré fin 2005 visait à transmettre au plus vite l’information dans les usines. La démarche a permis de tendre les flux et simplifier les opérations, en optimisant la gestion de l’outil industriel et les commandes, notamment en supprimant le flux « rush order » qui perturbait les planifications.

**La maille du flux global** a déjà été réduit à une semaine au lieu de deux (soit un gain de trois semaines en temps de cycle).

overall network flow

Sounds like jargon, and in-house jargon at that, so, well, translate jargon with jargon.

Global: meaning from start to finish?

Could it be a typo for taille???

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I ended up going with "overall flow" as I don't think "maille" adds anything to the meaning. Thanks very much for your help in trying to decipher this! Karen"

mesh?

It looks to me as if they are talking about 'reducing the mesh' through which the 'flow' passes, figuratively speaking of course.
Maille often means mesh in a concrete sense too.

This website talks about a 'meshed workflow' - which would seem to fit your context (?)

so you could say something like: the 'mesh' of the overall workflow has already been reduced from 2 weeks to 1 week...I think I would be inclined to keep 'mesh' in inverted commas though... in the absence of a better expression...
