French term

code scientifique de recherche en mécanique des fluids

French to English Tech/Engineering Engineering: Industrial Fluids Engineering
This is from an engineering CV or resume. Obviously, the subject is fluids engineering (engineering gets more ghits than mechanics) and we are talking about research, but would this translate as 'scientific code for fluids engineering research' or 'scientific research code for fluid mechanics' - would the latter make sense?

Here's the line in question:

Participation au développement d’un code scientifique de recherche en mécanique des fluids.

(I'm sure there's an 'e' missing from 'fluids' in the French, but hey ho!)

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Jul 25, 2005:
engineering v mechanics Mechanics had been my original thought - and I have to say that I don't always go with what Google says anyway - so for everyone who has commented on that part of the question, many thanks - very helpful to know what is the most common term for that particular industry.
Non-ProZ.com Jul 25, 2005:
suezen, Thanks for your answer, but doesn't your interpretation change it round a bit? I mean, it implies that the research is on the code, rather than the code being used for the research...no?

agree Lisa Laplante : Your choice is correct. I've worked in this field in both France and the US, and taught fluid mechanics in the US. That's the term that's used.

research code in the field of fluid mechanics

I would say "participated in the development of a research code in the field of fluid mechanics", or even "co-developed a research code in the field of fluid mechanics".

Just some other options.

If code has to do with a \"methodology\" for conducting scientific research, maybe it\'s best to say \"methodology\" to avoid potential confusion with the other meaning for \"code\" which has to do with computer programming.

Other options:

\"co-developed a code for research in the field of fluid mechanics\"

\"co-developed a research methodology in fluid mechanics\"
