Réacteurs à eau pressurisée
Hello,
this is for a non-technical audience. The context:
I'm struggling with simple ou double, my attempt so far: " a single or secondary confinement structure protects the reactor core"
Many thanks

As an ex in-house translator for British Nuclear Fuels and translator of numerous PWR/EPR documents over the years, I can assure you that this is a containment vessel rather than structure. To me a structure doesn't have any sense of enclosure, i.e. things canot leak out - which is the whole point!

Note from asker:
Thank you for your suggestion it seems the most accurate so far. But after a quick internet search 'containment vessel' brings up EPRs and V generation reactors. The original talks about PWRs. I have come across 'containment structre' in reference to PWRs. I welcome your input on this. |

(An enclosure protects) single or double core.
This is how I perceive the whole sentence!

: Misinterpretation of the s/t: there is only one core, but one or two 'enceintes'
