Translation - English A strong wind is picking up
News is catching up with fiction. Pushed over on the wrong side of history, the oppressed demand another narrative. In the national novel of the colonizing countries one sees the margins attack the thread of official history.
Here, for the distracted movie buffs who might have missed a few stations , is an opportunity to get back on the road. Special Jury Award at La Mostra, the latest installment of Warwick Thornton, Sweet Country, is premiering in Montreal. With a scenario inspired by real events, this is a replay of the western taking place in the harsh landscapes of northern Australia. The story of a man who wants to believe in justice, despite everything.
English to French: Sierra Club Quebec General field: Science Detailed field: Other
Source text - English Sierra Club Québec interviewed the farmers around the Montreal area, and the St-Lawrence Valley, with whom we have collaborated on our Bioblitz program. We discussed their personal positions on the construction of the Energy East pipeline, that of other members of their communities, and the potential impacts of the pipeline on their land, livelihoods, families and personal well-being.
As a scientific organisation, we feel that the human experience is inextricable from the ecosystems in which we are embedded as a species. For this reason, we have included throughout this document excerpts of our conversations with the farmers who collaborated with our organisation. We hope to highlight issues identified as important by these farmers, foresters, maple producers, and livestock keepers. Their testimonies will be included here as verbatim text, in order to bring a glimpse of the lived-reality of those involved with Sierra Club Québec. As people who live very close to the land, they are the ones who are the most vulnerable to environmental destruction.

Source text - English Movies and sound recordings have had an extended kinship. It is a kinship can be traced to the introduction of the Kinetoscope and earlier. In 1888 when Edison conceived his movie experiment he viewed it as an extension of his phonograph. The moving image device, the Kinetophone would ‘...do for the eye what the phonograph does for the ear.’ His new project coincided with the origination of the North American Phonograph Company which had rights to market phonographs and graphophones, a competing format devised by Alexander Graham Bell. The initial intent was to lease machines to business concerns with the entertainment market as a second objective. Edison manufactured the machines and cylinders which North American Phono then leased to businesses through a group of firms with territorial rights. A similar company was organize to market the machines in Europe and elsewhere. While Edison paid lip service to recording opera, drama and famous persons, he thought that making stenographic phonographs would be more profitable.
