Pillar of the Scourging

Jesus is 6-feet tall. The Roman scourgers had our Lord bend over a 3-foot pillar to endure the whipping — a whipping they administered to the front and back of Jesus’ Body. No normal person would have survived this scourging.
Researchers, in trying to comprehend in our modern understanding the severity of this beating, have likened the Scourging of Christ as equivalent to

From St Zeno's chapel, you can enter the sanctuary of the Pillar of the Scourging. The relic was brought from the Holy Land in 1223 by Giovanni Cardinal Colonna the Younger, but it is unlikely that it is authentic. The marble and work is of too high quality for such a pillar, and there is a Pillar of the Scourging, of a more realistic form, in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.

The Sistine Chapel
At the top are angels with instruments of the Passion of Christ (the Cross, the Crown of Thorns, the Pillar of Scourging), reminding us that the possibility of salvation comes through Christ's sacrifice.

In Austria and southern Germany, the so-called Martersäulen can be found along the roads, or wherever a small column or shrine is placed to honor a a martyr or saint. They often have very little to do with martyrs, but are often placed at crossroads.

prayer station
Here are some pictures and explanations, because it's 1am and I can't think of a more apt term for your catalogue. It's often a little box with a picture or carving inside, on top of a small post, found along footpaths for people to stop and say a prayer at. Sometimes at the site of a long-ago accident. Best of luck.
