I'm going to leave this question to others. You asked me to post an answer, but you seem reluctant to provide the full context in Spanish.
Liliana Garfunkel (asker) Apr 20, 2021:
No, it's a real electric shock machine. This is a comedy. I think that I don't really have a choice, I'll have to use "electric shock machine" or maybe taser? Or "stun gun" as Althea suggested. By the way, thank you, Althea.
philgoddard Apr 20, 2021:
I was asking for the Spanish context You still know more than we do, and also I don't think "shock machine" conveys a clear meaning. Are you sure it's a weapon and he's pretending it's a toy? If so, how about "it's a toy that gives you electric shocks"?
Liliana Garfunkel (asker) Apr 20, 2021:
No, he's just a regular guy, not a cop, not a criminal, I don't know why he has this taser. This is a movie, so it's fantasy. Phil, can you please write this option as an answer? Thanks!
philgoddard Apr 20, 2021:
Could we have a few sentences of Spanish context, please? I'm still not clear who this guy is (cop, criminal?), what this thing is, or what it's doing on the table.
As Althea's references show, if you use taser as a generic term, many of them are boxes. A capital-T Taser looks like a gun.
Liliana Garfunkel (asker) Apr 20, 2021:
Yes, I'm not sure if "máquina de toques" is a taser. A taser doesn't look like a box.
philgoddard Apr 20, 2021:
So he has a taser and he's pretending it's a toy?
Liliana Garfunkel (asker) Apr 20, 2021:
If there's no choice, I'll use it, but the context is this: A man, he's Mexican, is playing cards with his daughter and he's joking, he has this "máquina de toques", but tries to minimize the fact that it's an electric weapon because his wife is looking at them.
philgoddard Apr 20, 2021:
Since its specific purpose is to generate electric shocks, I don't see why you'd want to avoid those words.
