I'm translating an interview with a Nicaraguan political analyst and his opinion that Daniel Ortega is "self-destructing" by refusing to compromise in the dialogue that his government is having with the opposition. The interview is here: https://confidencial.com.ni/ortega-esta-escogiendo-la-via-de...

The phrase between ***** is the one I can't quite put my finger on.

Thanks in advance!

(aunque sea imposible o imaginario...)

in a pole position (to steal a march)

Explanation:
- a mix of metaphors, but no April Fool's advantage.

As robotic school boys used to say in my school soldier-playing army-cadet days of pointless square-bashing: 'Don't anticipate the order, boy!'.

The KudoZ web ref. is admittedly incongruous, as from another context and minus the tiempo/ temporal aspect.
