Medical - Medical (general) / chirurgia
English term or phrase: brushings

Involvement of unilobar vascular structures is managed with resection of the primary and affected lobe in continuity, and therefore it is not a contraindication. Tissue diagnosis before resection in operative patients is unnecessary. With obstructive jaundice, bile cytology and brushings are unreliable, and thus a negative cytology report does not exclude malignant disease. Therefore, invasive attempts to establish a diagnosis before resection carry risk but do not alter subsequent management.
