French term

quand même

Non-PRO French to English Art/Literary idiomatic words
Yes, I know it can mean 'honestly' or 'even if', but what else?
This isn't a specific text translation here, but something that's been bugging me for a long time - how it's used in idiomatic conversation, almost as a linguistic tic, like:
but actually, like, you know what I mean? I mean to say, etc.
is that it?
Can someone please offer the modern English equivalent in a context that gels as a reference model

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "OK, this was obviously going to be unfair to everyone except the chosen Answerer, but, anyway, writeaway gets the points for responding right away with 'anyway', which is a serve-all for me. Thanks so much to all of you for your helpful input - all the suggestions have clarified this niggling doubt. "

Honestly!! For Heaven's sake! (and all of the above)

Enfin quand même! Tu n'as pas honte?
Honestly! For Heaven's sake! Aren't you ashamed of yourself?

But also, like Claudette said, it can mean "still", as in:

Il a quand même réussi à gagner.
He still managed to win.

It's basically a form of emphasis, with a different translation, depending on the context. A bit like "mais si"! You can't say "but yes!". You would say "It IS!" or "I CAN!"
Does that make sense?....

Just noticed you already had \"honestly\"... :D Never mind. Hope some of it helped anyway!
