term used here in the States for business collateral and real estate
i.e. from United Educational Services, CA Real Estate Principles
as follows: Trust deed, mortgages and land contracts are all methods of financing: They are financing instruments referred to as \"security devices.\" pg. 228 This is just one example of a \"security device\", don\'t want to take the time here for others

: I would have agreed to "security" (although "collateral" is more commonly used), but "device" strikes me as very unusual. Any reference?

loan collateral
Sicherheiten = sureties / pledges
Kreditsicherungsmittel = loan collaterals (or simply collaterals) / loan pledges
Bürgschaft = bail / suretyship / or perhaps even security collateral
depending on the context. If you are not sure, collateral is a sure thing to go with (it can be anything from mortgage to the most sophisticated financial instruments).
