French term

CG solides GMS

French to English Other Food & Drink Cheese
I know that GMS stands for grand magasin spécialisé but what might CG stand for?

Discussion

Anna Quail Jun 28, 2006:
CG can stand for "commerce de gros" which would fit in with GMS (grandes et moyennes surfaces or your own suggestion). In your case it would be plural - commerces de gros. If this is what you're looking for, it's not an abbreviation to do with cheese:-)
Anna Quail Jun 28, 2006:
Can you give us some context to back up your idea that this has to do with cheese? Is this in a list or is it part of a sentence?
David Goward Jun 28, 2006:
Doesn't answer your question, but you might also consider that GMS can also stand for "grandes et moyennes surfaces".

Any further clues re. "CG solides"?

corps gras

Oops! Answered this one in your other question.

Strikes me as odd that they should referring to "corps gras solides" which sounds somewhat technical if "GMS" does indeed refer to the places where dairy products might be sold.

IOW, are you sure "GMS" means what you say?

Is your text one about producing dairy products, or about marketig them, ... ?

commerces de gros solides -sound wholesalers/ wholesale businesses

As you have no further context and you seem to think this is possible (I read the other question on BP/IND, which funnily enough I didn't receive, but my ProZ.com messages are a bit wonky at the moment), I'm posting it as an answer;-) I'm sorry your client is/was so uncooperative.
