Hello and welcome to my Proz page!

I'm a French national, based in London who's spent the first half of my life in France and the other half in England. After studying translation at university, I went on to acquire valuable hands-on experience in teaching, IT, film and project management which enabled me to become not only fluent in English but also aware of cultural and socio-economic differences between the French and the English. Thanks to my experience as an in-house translator within a busy translation agency, I understand clients' requirements and business pressures and the importance of over-delivering, particularly in terms of deadline and creativity.

I concentrate essentially on legal, marketing & business translation and will only accept work I know I can do justice to.

Finally, I often get asked if I use translation software or if I could recommend any good translation programme, the answer is a big unequivocal "No"! I believe translation is a craft, and so far, no software is quite able to replace a human brain.
These fine examples of poor translation should speak for themselves*:

Gentle cycle (washing instructions on a shirt label): "Aimable bicyclette"

Made in Turkey (label on a jumper): "Fait en dinde"

Ozone Safe (label on a spray can): "Coffre-fort d'ozone"

Luxury in the Bathroom (label on a sponge): "Luxure dans la salle de bain"

Tighten the nuts (technical notice): "Serrez les noix"

In Any Language (promotional leaflet): "Dans aucune langue"

Although even a human brain can sometimes be challenged, as Australia's Bob Hawke found out when he told an audience in Japan that he had not come "to play silly buggers" with them**. Perhaps not surprisingly this came out of the interpreters booth as: "I am not here to play laughing homosexuals with you"...
