My creative juices are running dry (perhaps I could use some of this vintage chardonnay!). Any ideas for “mariant l’éphémère et le pérenne”? Thanks in advance!

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.
How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:
An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)
A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).
Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.
When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.
* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

jolly interesting debate below but I shall simply defend my 'artful' ! To me it showed that XXX deliberately (& successfully) conveyed these two notions via his classy pack, i.e. as you say the beauty of the outside and the inside !
combining the ephemeral and perennial/constant

a permanent reminder of the vintage
"In order to leave (the customer with) a permanent reminder of the vintage, XXX was inspired to......"
(I'm assuming, of course that "XXX à l'idée" is a typo for "XXX a l'idée" - otherwise I don't see how the sentence works grammatically at all).
Thanks Josephine! You are right – that must be a typo. I'll point it out to the client. |

marrying momentary existence with a suggestion of perpetuity

Or since we don't want to imply, as Tony points out, that their wine is just a fleeting pleasure, "To suggest both a rare moment and eternity".
DISCUSSION ONLY
This is one of the reasons I have some reservations about 'fleeting', since although that is of course a true synonym for 'ephemeral', I just can't help thinking they wouldn't like to think of 'dégustation' of their fine cru being regarded as quite such a fleeting pleasure...
I shall be so interested to see what others think about this!

Oh yes, SKT, I TOTALLY agree that in a wine-TASTING context, 'fleeting' is an entirely appropriate term to use; I just feel faintly uneasy about it as applied to the actual PRODUCT (if that's indeed what they mean). If as I read it the 'éphémère' relates to the experience of enjoying their fine wine, I just feel that 'fleeting' somehow suggests it won't last very long / will be over all too quickly — which doesn't seem to me to feel quite right; surely they'd want people to think "If you buy our wine, you're going to enjoy a long, pleasurable moment drinking it" — in such a context, 'fleeting' seems to me to suggest 'downing it in one'.
Do you see what I mean? It's by no means a strong objection, just a faint unease...

making the instant eternal
Whichever instant it is, it will live on as a memory in the horrid silver dust-gathering cagey thingy, be it empty or still full with a full bottle of wine.

Tony, this is the fleeting enjoyment of a pleasurable experience. Are'nt most pleasures fleeting? The container will be the permanent reminder of that pleasurable moment

Tony, just type wine + fleeting and see all the possibilities: fleeting aromas, flavors, fruit etc.
