From a text describing the history of a person's seizures:

"Och sen utvecklades det till större kramper, när vi väl upptäckte dem och åkte iväg."

Does "...och åkte iväg" mean that the seizures themselves would go away? I would guess that this is the implied meaning, but the nearest subject is the pronoun "vi".

While it would make perfect sense to say that the cramps "went away" in English, this is not idiomatic in Swedish and no native Swede would use "åka" about the cramps. Must likely it refers to that they left to hospital or some other implied place (that might be clear from the bigger context). So "we ... left for hospital" or some such would make sense.
