entering, please

Careful writers don't use input and output as verbs--if only because people can't decide how to spell (and pronounce) declined forms.

Decades ago, I was a sociolinguist.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Timothy Takemoto : I have seen this question a few times and assumed that kimeuchi meant "entering." I am a dull boy. All the same, there are 100,000 hits for "inputting" on google.

You obviously missed my "careful". The world is full of sloppy writers using it's for its, etc., but the English-speaking (North American English) companies that pay my bill specify type/enter instead of inputting/keyboarding.

assumption, guess, default

I think that it means assume, make an assumption, make a guess. But looking at the way it is used, it seems to mean the first/safe guess, or default.

It is used to translated "assume" and "assumption" in the page given in the reference.
