Kibbutzim
Is there a term for the kitchen "econom" or "economit" - the person in charge of ordering for the kibbutz kitchen?
I'm thinking "kitchen supplies manager" or "kitchen economic manager"
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Kibbutz Food Manager
It's a very Hebrew-Kibbutz specific term that simply means "He who manages food" ;-)
This is what the English speaking volunteers on our kibbutz used to call this function.

Note from asker:
Thanks - this sounds like a good direction. Almost a kitchen manager, but without the hiring and firing aspect. |

Catering manager
40 years a kibbutz member so I know this is what he does. The catering managers bears responsibility for all that associated with food supply, preparation, running the dining room with all its services, etc.
Example sentence:
The catering manager's job is doubly hard during Passover.
Note from asker:
Thanks Eric. I think Lingopro has a good point too. I actually worked in my kibbutz kitchen, and the econom was not at all involved in the actual running of the kitchen - the cook was. The dining room was run by somebody else. |

: I'm not disagreeing, just saying that the function varies slightly between kibbutzim - on our kibbutz he didn't really manage the dining room or prep or kitchen, but was mostly in charge of purchases... s/he is called אקונום

There is a contradiction in the orginal question. Econom hakibbutz - the general usage on the kibbutz around my area of the country is the catering manager. If specific individual is in charge of purchasing he or she will be the food purchaser.
