German term

Ablöseentschädigung

German to English Social Sciences Sports / Fitness / Recreation soccer/football
I'm thinking this is a "transfer fee" but some members of my household whose expertise in this field I greatly admire.... protested, saying it was some sort of "waiver" (release on waiver?). All google hits seem to point to transfer fee - so I would really appreciate your comments - thanks!

Here's my context:
A short letter from a German soccer club to a Canadian soccer club. The management of the German club talks about the possible transfer/move of one of their players to a Canadian club.

Here's the sentence:

Horst Huber (X) Feb 10, 2011:
Waiver would imply that the German club is giving up on the prospects of the player?

agree Cilian O'Tuama : could be, but "Ablöse" would be the more common term IMO
