Diakonie, diakonisch

This is from the same document as Evangelisches Krankenhaus.
It is an employment contract. Diakonie as I seem to understand it is the church's administrative district similar to Catholic Diecesie(spelling wrong).

Name! Social Services of the Lutheran Church
Here I have to disagree - strongly - with Olaf and Kim. "Diakonie" and "Diakonisches Werk" have nothing (or almost nothing) to do with "deaconry". It's a proper name and it refers to the Social Services of the Lutheran Church. The Lutheran church consists of Landeskirchen and each of these has it own Diakonie: Diakonie Sachsen, Diakonie Bayern etc. So you should keep the German name and add the explanation in German.
I did my community service in a centre for the elderly which was administered by the Diakonie Bayern - so I should know.

"Social work" wäre besser: http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=church social work&ei=UTF-8...

You should consult dictionaries such as LEO first:

Discussion
Klaus, thank you, you totally grasped the context. However how do I translate the follwing sentences then: Diakonie is Wesens- und Lebensausserung der Evangelischen Kirche. Thank you again.
