However, this web ref seems to suggest that \'prolonged\' will also work in the context:
Celestial North and South Poles: the points at which the prolonged polar axis of the earth intersects the celestial sphere. The Celestial North

The Pole Star (Polaris) is an exception to this rule. The celestial axis, an imaginary line drawn (projected) through the poles, also extends through it.
