"I climbed into a tree about 15 feet up. I tied a rope to my gun in case I dropped it and settled into the notch of the tree. Not long after, a 4 point came running headed right under my tree! I got the gun ready, took off the safety and started swinging on the moving deer as it ran into the corn field. About the time I was going to pull the trigger, the rope fetched up on a limb and prevented me from swinging any further. In desperation, I swung the gun under my leg and pointed it the best I could guess at the deer and shot. The deer dropped in its tracks. Looking back now I realize how stupid that was, both for me and the deer, but buck fever on your first deer sighting makes you do strange things."
