Strain - это и боль/ состояние напряжения, которое возникает вследствие напряжения или перерастяжения, и само перерастяжение. Здесь перерастяжение уже произошло, его не уменьшить. Перед этой фразой как раз описывается тактика, чтобы не допускать его. Но она же помогает и как экстренная помощь, когда боль уже появилась.
