Italian term or phrase: non creai code
Character has just gone into town to look for a prostitute for the night. He has described how other guys on the street almost seem to form queues to pick up the girls. I don't know what he means here.

Per fortuna non creai code, anche se un paio di volte qualcuno mi dette l’impressione che stesse per fare un pensierino sul sottoscritto.

Explanation:
or other variations which will surely follow....

As he stopped to talk to the prostitute, no cars had to stop behind him

Re note: Sorry, yes, I guess he means people standing behind him. That would clarify also the "pensierino su di me", i.e., either an aggression of some kind or an indecent proposal...which wouldn't be possible if they were in cars.

No, "pensiero SU DI ME" is not "stesso pensiero mio". It means that they're thinking about him in some way, making a move on him. Not clear whether for "hitting him" or "hitting ON him".

Notes to answerer
Asker: He got there by taxi. Is he not talking about human queues?

Asker: You meant "impression that they had the same thought as me?"

luckily I didn't cause a line to form.

Explanation:
It sounds like he feels lucky that he's not mistaken for a prostitute which might cause another line/queue to sprout up behind him. Though a couple of times he gets the impression that someone does give him a thought..like a second glance. A fleeting thought.
