Fara parinti (a crescut la orfelinat, printre cazanele cu mancare) si fara ocupatie precisa, cuceritor prin farmecul personal (care-i permite ca in plin stalinism sa aiba "cont deschis" la multe carciumi...), Cazane-senior o cucereste spontan pe tanara Georgeta Cosmoiu din Liveni, sat moldovean din preajma Siretului, si, dupa mariajul lor bucurestean, ii uimeste pe sateni prin harnicia lui si prin rosiile "cat pepenasii" pe care le cultiva.
