Discussion

Lisa McCarthy May 2, 2013:
@ Neil For me, the word 'technician' conjures up someone in a lab coat :)
neilmac (asker) May 2, 2013:
Too many "técnicos" ... Perhaps it's me that's the problem. I see so many jobs described as "técnico" that I usually try to find another way to express them if they aren't what I see as "technical". "Technician" always conjures up images of "boffin" types to me...

Another option
Working with engineers and technicians, this position will be responsible for maintaining all documents related to products and processes. They will also work closely with the quality and production departments to make sure all appropriate people have access to documents. This includes creation, revision, maintenance, and filing of component and assembly drawings; revision, maintenance, and filing of work instructions; working within and developing improvements to our engineering change order (ECO) system; and creating, revising, and maintaining all raw material specification documents.

It gets rid of the "lab coat". I certainly did not wear one when I did quality documentation for a photonics company.
Note from asker:
An interesting possibility, thanks for that ;)

Hi Neil, not one of my favourites either I must admit, but if the job title is used I think this would be a safer option that inventing something more appealing :)
Note from asker:
I'm afraid I'm not really keen on this, despite the references. Was looking for something more inspiring, but may have to just go with this in the end. Cheers ;)

documentation officer

Quite a lot of these around.

"Officer" is one possibility for avoiding "technician", which I think is quite often unsuitable for "técnico". After all, a "técnico" is often just someone who has some sort of training in a skill, not necessarily a technical skill.
Note from asker:
Another possibility... although it does sound a bit militaristic.
