Italian term or phrase: impronta
I need a translation for this "apparently simple" word. It's part of a title in a book (Chapter 1). The title is: "L'impronta del libro". I was thinking of "mark", "scope" but I'm sure there's a better word. Any ideas?

import/influence/trace in history

Explanation:
non si può dire con certezza dal titolo solo. Bisogna sapere di che si tratta il libro.

-> thanks Susy. It may also be a layout. Or even aim, partendo dall'orrenda espressione "questo libro è improntato a..." :)

Explanation:
Vista la spiegazione che dai nella discussion, mi sembra di aver capito che si parla, appunto, del contributo apportato dal libro nel descrivere la vita e la carriera del protagonista del libro stesso.

Explanation:
On the basis of reading the first few lines of the chapter: "The aim of the book"

It the rest of the chapter does in fact describe how the book is organised, then "layout" might be appropriate.

imprint

Explanation:
missing the context I cannot be sure how exactly 'impronta' is intended, but if I got it, I believe you should use a word such as 'imprint'
