Well in financial language this is the standard method. and if you follow my link you will see that millions of tons of cement are traded. As for the context, the sentence begins with "various". It would seem normal to then give the largest and the smallest amounts.

Ma comunque, non so come mai un avvocato puó introdurre delle abbreviazioni cosí discutibili in un documento legale molto importante come un contratto.
600k MT might mean 600 000 megatonne
600 K MIGHT MEAN 600 kilogrammes
