français term

moyenne glissante

français vers anglais Technique / Génie Ingénierie (général) Wastewater processing technologies
Have checked the one Proz glossary entry (bus/fin) but am still confused as to whether, in the following context, this should be translated as 'running average', 'moving average' or even, literally as 'sliding average', as all these terms seem to exist. I have even seen 'floating average' - but I am not at all sure which term would be used here.

Here is the context, taken from a document about programmable controllers used to regulate the air flow in an aeration sequence.

l'automate (PLC) relève toutes les minutes la valeur délivrée par la sonde à oxygène et effectue 24 h/24 une moyenne glissante sur 4 valeurs ;

Merci df49f!
agree Charlie Bavington : This would be my initial translation too, unless investigation showed that an alternative was more commonly used in a particular context/industry/situation.

neutral Sylvia Smith : sliding is perfectly fine, but "rolling average" gets about 10x more Google hits!

running average

This is the term I am most familiar with for what is being described here: a running average over 4 values
