Thanks David. Admittedly France Telecom put a pay by date on bills but the URSSAF use "en votre aimable r�glement" so I was a little confused.

The French is fine, Anna, just a bit old-fashioned these days, when it's more usual to specify a due date.

The French looks OK to me. For the British I think the use of promptly could look a bit abrupt. Jane's suggestion of kindly pay upon receipt is correct but again a bit abrupt. How about 'we would appreciate prompt payment upon receipt'??

This is not something one would ever translate as such into English

It is often found at the end of bills - I use it myself. The problem is that if I were doing an equivalent bill in English, I would change the whole thing and this sentence would not appear.

It simply means: Payment by cheque on receipt
