ProZ.com and MCIS Language Solutions Join Forces in Online Training Initiative
SYRACUSE, New York – The world's largest community of language professionals, ProZ.com and one of the fastest growing language training companies, MCIS Language Solutions, are joining forces to provide linguists with global access to high quality, affordable training and qualifications.
In this pilot, ProZ.com will offer its community access to MCIS’ highly successful Online Translator Training Program (OTTP), and post-training assessment in both source and target languages.
With over one million profiles, ProZ.com has been a leader in sourcing and matching linguists with work opportunities for over 20 years. “Combining ProZ.com’s global audience with MCIS’ training content will be a game-changer for linguists,” said Drew MacFadyen, ProZ.com’s Vice President of Sales. “The rate of content creation that can be localized far outpaces the training of new linguists. The ProZ.com & MCIS partnership will provide linguists opportunities to demonstrate & showcase their skills through accessible, affordable training & certification, that is 100% online.”
MCIS is the largest trainer and tester of language professionals in Canada, and trains over 250 linguists annually through a combination of e-learning and in-person training sessions. And since launching OTTP in 2017, MCIS has trained over 500 students.
The training curriculum consists of 27 modules that cover Fundamentals in Translation, Translation Competencies and Community Translation, including modules on code of ethics, workflow, terminology and subject matter research, legal and medical translation. Training can be completed in less than three months. To access the program, linguists must demonstrate writing proficiency in English and at least one other language, posess a post-secondary education, and pass a screening test that assesses students’ command of the English language.
“Partnering with Proz.com will enable its members to have access to the most diverse selection of online training courses available in the language industry. Together, our intent is to deliver current and newly developed training course that will put ProZ.com members on the best path for success in the rapidly changing language industry,” says Lester Korbely, Director of Sales and Marketing at MCIS Language Solutions.
