Word 2000 Feb 4, 2018

I have been using Word 2000 ever since it was first issued. There seemed so little difference in Word 2003 that I didn’t upgrade to it. Word 2007 and later, producing .docx files, are considerably different in ways I don’t like, so I stick to 2000 apart from a tablet with Windows 10. Word 2000 won’t work with that (it was supposed not to with Windows 8 and 8.1, but I found it did, on a laptop I no longer have). However, Kingsoft WPS issued 2013 and earlier has a “classic interface” which is very like the old Word, and can be installed in Windows 10, so I’m happy to use that. It is also good for converting .docx to .doc and vice versa.
One advantage of Word 2000 is that it dates from before software producers started limiting the number of times you could use your own property, so I can still use it on anything before Windows 10.

Windows 10 Feb 4, 2018

Mainly because WF Classic won't work with Excel files in later versions (thanks for nothing, Mr. Gates). And the supposed improvements in later versions make no difference to me. Like Jack, I was happy with earlier editions too.

On Mac Feb 4, 2018

I used to use Word without problems but since I became a Mac user, I've been using Word for Mac, but I rarely update it. My present version is 2011. I guess this is not the same as "using Word 2011", only similar.

I don't find later versions any better.

One of those funny polls where one can distinctly see that he is not much like 'the most' and just smile... Although I prefer Office XP/2003, most of the time I work in 2007, while experimenting with several 'alternate' free Office suites

...and I hate it as much as the preceding versions. What is the point of churning out updates when each successive one is still subject to the same kind of hissy fit that throws out your page layout for no apparent reason and then refuses to fix it?

No more reason to be outdated Feb 7, 2018

With the current prices of Office 365, for five licences, there is no more excuse to use an old version.
