Leisure reading - no.
But I have also been working my way through an extensive medical textbook.

First of all, I have to say that I can’t translate without reading, but for leisure I’ve been reading a book written by a young French author, Leïla Slimani, titled “Chanson douce”. I'm liking it so much that I’m considering buying her first one “Dans le jardin de l'ogre”.

I do occasionally read about art and music for pleasure, which does help me improve and update my style, however most of the time my reading is purely for pleasure. I suppose even my reading for pleasure has an influence on my writing style though.

Reading has been reduced to leisure for me, for quite a while. I work with translations all day, and when I have time to stop and read something, I prefer something out of the professional area.

I read all the time in both the languages I work with. Mostly fiction, interspersed with academic texts, poetry, essays, journal articles and more. As I consider anything to do with language related to translation, my reading is work related, however, as I derive enormous pleasure from reading, work is not foremost on my mind when I read.

Reading is for relaxation after the hard grind ....
I always have at least 2 books on the go, one on the Kindle app (usually downloaded free) and one REAL book on paper.
I am currently working my way through all the Dickens stories that I managed not to read at school.

I'm not reading any books right now as my mind is working through a jetlag (came back from a 3-week trip to Portugal, and the 5-hour difference is still there).
So, I'm reading bits from BusinessWeek and an old The Economist issue (I don't know where I got it!).
Some translation professors (one of them was my thesis proposal examiner) don't think that reading in one genre (say, fiction prose) can affect one's style... See more ...helps with my work-related translation.
