Source text - Norwegian Translation of the first paragraph of the Forward to the book Øyeblikkets Tyranni by Thomas Hylland Eriksen, (2001 H.Aschehoug &Co., Oslo), p.7. Original text provided upon request.
Translation - English The book is inspired by an acute feeling that something is about to go wrong. The last decade has continually given us time saving technologies- from advanced calendars to e-mail, voice mail, cell phones and word processing – and yet, most of us have never had less time than we have today. It seems as if we are in process of becoming slaves to the technologies that were suppose to free us. At the same time, the information revolution has given many of us, including those reading these lines, access to information that the greatest minds of previous generations would be jealous of. And yet, the unbelievable supply of information has not created a better informed public, but rather a more confused public.
Norwegian to English: Sample requested for a screenplay
Source text - Norwegian Det regner voldsomt. GERD (65, dyrt kledd, litt for ungdommelig for alderen. Hun tar vare på utseende, men har noen kilo for mye) kjører en nesten ny sølvblank Golf gjennom villatrøket. Utenfor vinduet skimtes det hekker og gjerder. Det er store tomter og store hus, de fleste er bygget før krigen.
Translation - English It is pouring rain. GERD (65, expensively dressed, a little too youthfully for her age. She takes care of her appearance, but is a bit over weight) drives a new shiny silver Golf through the residential area. We get glimpses of bushes and fences flashing by outside the windows. There are large properties and big houses, most of which were built before the war.
