Jean de La Fontaine
Maître Corbeau, sur un arbre perché,
Tenait en son bec un fromage.
Maître Renard, par l’odeur alléché,
Lui tint à peu près ce langage :
« Hé ! bonjour, Monsieur du Corbeau.
Que vous êtes joli ! que vous me semblez beau !
Sans mentir, si votre ramage
Se rapporte à votre plumage,
Vous êtes le Phénix des hôtes de ces bois. »
A ces mots le Corbeau ne se sent pas de joie ;
Et pour montrer sa belle voix,
Il ouvre un large bec, laisse tomber sa proie.
Le Renard s’en saisit, et dit : « Mon bon Monsieur,
Apprenez que tout flatteur
Vit aux dépens de celui qui l’écoute :
Cette leçon vaut bien un fromage, sans doute. »
Le Corbeau, honteux et confus,
Jura, mais un peu tard, qu’on ne l’y prendrait plus.

You’re the Phoenix of this wooded territory.”
At these words the Crow puffed up, feeling pride and glee;
And to flaunt his fair melody,
He opened wide his beak, letting fall his quarry.
The Fox seized it quick, and said with wit: “My good sir,
Learn well that all flatterers
Thrive at the loss of those who pay them heed:
This lesson is well worth a piece of cheese, indeed.”
The Crow, embarrassed and flummoxed,
Swore, too late, that he’d never again be outfoxed.

An excellent translation is not simply words on a page or your computer screen: the tone, intent, text type, target audience, cultural nuances, and more must all be considered and appropriately handled when crafting a translation. I'm native English (United States) speaker from the Houston, TX area. I have an MA in translation, as well as a BA in French and Japanese. Most of my translation experience and interest lies in the entertainment, scientific, medical, literary, and business fields.
French
From 7th-12th grade, I was enrolled in French classes in public school, and I continued my French studies during undergraduate and graduate school, giving me 12 years of studying and using the French language.
Japanese
I was enrolled Japanese courses all through my undergrad studies and spent a semester studying abroad at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies in Fuchu, Tokyo, Japan. I continued self-studying Japanese after getting my BA, totaling 6 years of experience with the Japanese language.
Outside of my passion for translation, I'm an avid reader, and I believe that daily reading in French, Japanese, and English is essential in order to continue improving my vocabulary and language skills. I'm also a creative writer, and write fictional novels, short stories, and other types of stories (mostly fantasy, sci-fi, speculative, and literary fiction). My other hobbies are playing video games, playing tabletop RPGs with friends, exercising, and spending time with family.
